Rafael Millán of Watertown, originally from Spain, died of a stroke
Saturday, January 9, at Mt. Auburn Hospital at 90. Born in the south
of Spain, Millán fought against Franco in the Civil War and later
wrote and published 15 books of poetry and short stories and edited
a literary magazine while working in a printing shop in Madrid.
In 1957 the political situation led Millán to move to Brazil for
four years, and then to the U.S., living in Philadelphia until 1973
and then in the Boston area. He became an American citizen in 1972.
Throughout his working life, Millán worked in the publishing business:

From 1973-83, he was vice president in charge of production in the
International Division of Addison Wesley Publishing Company.
After he retired, Millán continued to design books and publish and
exhibit photographs as a freelancer. He also taught Spanish at
several language schools.
Millán is survived by his wife, Anne; his former wives Doris Millán,
Martha Adams Zelt, and Carmen Capote de Millán; his daughters, Concha
Ruiz and Ana Altit; his sons, Luis, Emilio, and Federico Millan; and
more than 27 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
